It's getting to be that time again, when the nights are cool and the air is crisp. Since horizontal positions imply a certain peacefulness, this card is a gentle celebration of the upcoming harvest season.
Supplies
Pumpkin Border stamp set
Green half-sheet for card base
White cardstock - 4 x 5.5-inches
White cardstock - 3.75 x 4-inches
Light orange diecut scalloped oval measuring 2.5 inches wide (I used Spellbinders Scalloped Ovals Large - # S4-111)
White diecut scalloped oval measuring 1.75 inches (I used Spellbinders Scalloped Ovals Large - # S4-111)
Inks:
Versacolor Bisque, Narcissus, Laurel Leaf, Old Rose, Pinecone, Evergreen, Split Pea, Narcissus; Memories Soft Wheat
Chalks - Yellow-Orange, Butterscotch, Burnt Sienna
Tombow pens - #912 (flesh) and #879 (brown)
Gelly Roll Stardust Clear Glitter Pen
If you've used chalks before, you already know what I'm talking about and if you haven't, you're in for a pleasant surprise. Chalks are such an amazingly inexpensive way to add wonderful depth to your projects. At only .80 each, having multiple colors is affordable for almost everyone! The chalk puffs are also inexpensive at only 1.00 for three puffs.
Use the Butterscotch chalk and smudge a random pattern on the 3.75 x 5.5-inch piece of white cardstock. Repeat with the Burnt Sienna and Yellow-Orange chalks.
Stamp a muted background using the Mini Pumpkin Leaf with Laurel Leaf ink. Repeat with Umber and Narcissus inks.
Grab the Burnt Sienna chalk and while the ink is still a bit wet, smudge over the stamped impressions. You will see the stamped images come alive! Now that you have the background, we'll stamp the Pumpkin border across the middle of this background, horizontally, of course, using the following stamps and inks:
Mini Pumpkin Leaf in Evergreen,
Tiny Pumpkin Leaf stamp in Split Pea, Tiny Pumpkin in Old Rose,
and Tiny Slinky Loop in Pinecone.
Centering the pumpkin border you have created, tear the paper so that you have white edges showing. Glue this to the horizontal center of the white 4 x 5.5-inch cardstock and set aside for now.
Edge the orange oval with Old Rose ink. Scuff the white oval with the Soft Wheat ink pad, then edge with Pinecone ink.
On the scrap piece of white cardstock, Stamp the pumpkin in Old Rose. Stamp the Mini Pumpkin Leaf in Evergreen. Without re-inking, stamp again. Stamp one more time in Evergreen.
Glue white oval to orange oval and glue the resulting piece on top of the pumpkin border you stamped earlier. Now glue the ensemble to the green cardstock half-sheet, folded.
Use the Gelly Roll giltter pen to make " stitches." Embellish with glitter glue, if desired, and you're all done!

Susan -
The Autumn is my favorite time of year and you have done it justice! I love the technique you should with the leaves and the pumpkin center, lovely. The colors you've selected are very appropriate and warm feeling for this time of year. Again, thank you so much for your wonderfully detailed tutorials.

As usual I love this card. I learn so much everytime I see your tutorials. I love the way you used the chalk and I have found myself cutting out images and doing dimensional on most cards as I love the look and the texture. I love Autumn and miss it very much. I had both my daughters in the autums! What's not to love about that!

Like all of the other comments, I forget to add chalk because it gives such a soft dimension to the card. I also like how you edges the ovals with the ink and then the tomboy pen which really makes the ovals "pop"! Lovely card with those wonderful fall colors.

I cut out stamped images all the time, but had never thought about doing it with your tiny images. I'll have to try that!
