Love always seems easier in the spring! Nature begins to unfurl her little green flags that will eventually become new leaves and the air is full of hope and promise. Today's card has a bit of that promise, with the use of Split Pea ink and card stock trim in the midst of roses and browns. Here's to love in the springtime!
Stamps -
"Heart Buttons" stamp set
"XOXO" mini stamp
"always" mini stamp
Rose card stock - 5.5 x 4.25 inches, folded
Split Pea card stock
Brown card stock
White card stock
Burgundy card stock
Inks - Versacolor Burgundy, Pinecone, Peony, and Split Pea
Supplies -
Cuttlebug embossing envelopes - "Floral Screen" and "Distressed Stripes"
Spellbinders Nestabilities - "Labels Four"
Gold Paint Pen
Brown ribbon
Brown Embroidery Thread
Instructions -
Run the Rose card stock through the Floral Screen embossing envelope. Use the Pinecone ink pad to highlight the texture of the embossed areas.
Take the Rose card stock and tear away the bottom portion (about 1.5 inches from the bottom). Take a strip of the Split Pea card stock tear the bottom of the Split Pea card stock to form a ragged edge. Then glue behind the Rose card base. Glue the Brown embroidery thread along the edge that connects the Rose paper to the Split Pea paper. Run the Brown card stock piece through the Distressed Stripes embossing envelope so that the stripes are vertical. Size and glue behind the Split Pea card stock so that the Brown card stock finishes out the card, giving it the proper size. Set aside.
Run the Labels dies through the machine. The largest label I used is 3.5 inches long. The inside die is roughly 3 inches long.
Take the larger White card stock cut-out and use the Mini Floral Cluster stamp and Peony ink to create a background. Edge the label with the Gold Paint Pen and set aside.
Then stamp the following on the smaller White card stock label:
(For those not familiar with the Rubber Stamp Tapestry stamping techniques, please visit our Animated Demos page for basic step-by-step instructions).Tiny Heart button - Peony ink
Tiny Leaves - Split Pea
Itsy Flower in Burgundy
Tiny Decorative Embellishment in Pinecone around the outer edge of the label.
Use the Gold Paint Pen to edge the stamped label and then glue it to a piece of Brown card stock. Trim away the excess, leaving a pinstripe of brown. Then glue to the larger label, stamped earlier. Glue a strip of Brown ribbon on top of both labels and trim away the excess, following the curve of the label as a pattern. Glue the resulting medallion to the card base.
On a small rectangular piece of White card stock, stamp the XOXO and always stamps in Pinecone ink. Then stamp the Tiny Leaves stamp in Split Pea, to embellish. Then use the Peony and Pinecone to edge the rectangle. Glue to a piece of Brown card stock and trim away the excess. Repeat with Burgundy card stock. Glue the resulting medallion on top of the Brown ribbon you put down earlier and you're done!

Your cards really do look like tapestry. The buttons alone make me think country, but in this setting I think victorian. Very pretty. Thanks!

The card feels so warm. Knowing which colors to use to highlight the embossed areas will help me recreate the look you achieve. I have to start thinking January birthdays and Valentine's day so who knows how I might use the colors and techniques here.

Once again, Susan, your use of folders amaze me. I never would have thought to put distressed stripes on a card about love but it surely does work wonderfully! Love the colors, too. Thank you for sharing you talent and perspective.
