Sometimes the most pleasure in making a card is imagining that special person opening it. Adding a few special touches makes the difference between "Nice" and "Wow!" And it is always fun to figure out ways to make the opening process as wonderful as possible. This card features a whimsical note that unfolds in an unexpectedly simple way.
Stamps -
Floral Vine Border stamp set
"you're in my thoughts" block stamp
Papers -
Goldenrod card stock half-sheet, folded
Dusty Pink designer paper - 2-3/8 x 5.5 inches
White card stock - 2.75 x 6 inches
White card stock scrap
Inks -
Versacolor Narcissus, Old Rose, Bark, Pinecone, Narcissus, Umber;
Encore Metallic Gold
Scalloped Oval die
Embellishments -
Gold Paint Pen
Assorted ribbons
Adhesive Pearls - Chocolate
Paper Flowers - Sepia, Cream, and Dusty Pink
Antique Copper Circle Brad (hidden on the card)
Button
Archival Black pen
Watercolor paints
Instructions -
Emboss the Goldenrod card half sheet with the "Birds and Swirls" embossing folder.
Then emboss the Dusty Pink paper with the "Textile Textures" embossing folder. Edge both pieces with Bark ink and then glue the Dusty Pink piece to the Goldenrod card-base.
Make Folded Note card -
Use the White card stock strip to make the little note card, which, when finished, will look like it's own envelope. Both sides will be stamped; they will differ only in their background color.
Use the Narcissus ink cube to smudge some color on one side of the white card stock strip.
Stamp both sides with the following stamps and inks:
Stamp the Tiny Stemmed Starflower in Old Rose ink.
Stamp a second time before reinking for added dimension.
Repeat with Bark ink.
Then stamp the Bare Branch in Pinecone ink.
Last, stamp the Tiny Loop Double Swirl in Gold.
Edge the outer borders with Bark ink.
Once you have stamped both sides, you will fold the strip at the following places:
2-1/8 inches from the top end.
1.75 inches from the bottom end.
Once you've folded the strip, you will add the topper that will make the note look like an envelope.
Using the Dusty Rose paper and the scalloped die, cut out an oval.
Run the Dusty Pink oval through the "Birds and Swirls" embossing envelope.
Scuff it with the Bark ink pad to bring out the texture.
With the strip folded, line up the oval on the top of the folded strip to where you are satisfied with the placement and glue down.
Flip the strip over and trim away the unused edges of the oval, using the strip as a guide.
Assemble the flowers you will embellish the note and card with.
This is a bird's eye view of what the note will look like when it is unfolded.
Add a button to dress up the envelope. In this case, I glued the button instead of sewing it down. But I still wanted the button to look realistic so I "sewed" thread through the button holes. Trial and error provided an easy way to do this. When you run the needle through the first button hole (through the bottom of the button), leave three or four inches of thread hanging free. Keep wrapping thread through the button holes until you are satisfied. Then, when you make the last exit with the needle, simply tie the two ends of thread together and trim them short enough that they don't show. Then you're ready to glue the button down.
Now it's time to attach the note. Instead of gluing, I wanted to make the note removable and to actually write on it. So, using the black pen, journal a sentiment on the inside of the card. When you're placing the note, it is a good time to attach the flowers you made earlier.
Instead of glue, use the ribbons to hold the note. Here, I fastened the base ribbon down with a brad at each end. Then I placed the second brown ribbon on top of the base ribbon (hiding the brads) and tied the two brown ribbons together with the thin yellow ribbon.
You can slip the note, unfolded, behind the ribbons, then fold it closed.
Make Medallion -
The next step is to make what I think of as a "sunrise" medallion to go behind the envelope.
Stamp "you're in my thoughts" in Bark.
Stamp the Tiny Stemmed Starflower in Narcissus.
Stamp the Tiny Bare Branch in Umber ink.
Stamp the Tiny Loop Double Swirl in Gold.
Last, stamp the Tiny Four Dot Butterfly in Black.
Line up the stamped area in the oval die and cut out the oval.
On the White scrap of paper, stamp the Butterfly again and paint with watercolor pink and yellow. Then cut it out, fold it in the center, and glue to the Butterfly stamped on the medallion. Glue the medallion to the card.
Add a little glitter glue, if you like, and you're finished!

My favorite part of this card is the added notecard. I like the way you incorporate a lot of info per card that I can pick apart and use to make several other cards. I keep referring to a book of all your past cards and techniques...please print...it would make a great reference...and I would buy! Computers are great, but ours doesn't always work!

Love the card. I like the removable note with the scalloped portion. I don't think of cutting parts away from elements I have made so it is good to be reminded of how many more options that makes. Love all the new sets too!
