If you are the sort of person whose card is part of the gift, then this project might be right up your alley. The Boxes and Bows set makes a great all-occasion card as well as Baby, Wedding, Birthday, and even Christmas. All that is needed is a change of color! Today's main project will appeal to many of the ladies but with variation of inks, it could also make a nice man-card. I've included several samples in different colors, added at the end of the main project.
Stamps -
Boxes and Bows stamp set
"Just for you" block stamp
"sending you love" block stamp
Papers -
Cream and Olive Green designer paper - 8.5 x 5.5, folded
Purple card stock quarter-sheet - (will provide the following):
Disc - 3.75 inches in diameter
Rectangle measuring 1-1/8 x 1-1/4 inches
Thin strip measuring 1/4 inch x 4.25 inches
Punched-out Flowers
Lavender card stock - 2-1/8 x 4.25 inches
White card stock quarter-sheet (for stamped area)
White card stock rectangle - 1 x 1-1/8 inches
White card stock - 2 x 4.25 inches
INKS -
Versacolor Lavender, Split Pea, Grape, Bamboo, Canary
Tools -
Round die - I used Spellbinders Standard Circles Large #S4-114
Cuttlebug embossing folder - "Victoria"
Punch - Medium Heart Punch
Small Floral Punch
Embellishments -
Gold transparent ribbon
Adhesive Pearls - Yellow
Gold Paint Pen
PopIt! Shapes - (I used Square)
Purple Marker
INSTRUCTIONS -
Locate the Purple quarter-sheet and cut the following pieces:
Using the Round Die, cut a piece 3.75 inches in diameter
Cut a rectangle measuring 1-1/8 x 1.25 inches
Cut a thin strip measuring at least 1/4 inch x 4.25 inches
Now take the Lavender paper and run it through the embossing folder. Glue it on top of the Purple strip so that about an eighth of an inch of Purple shows. Glue just the right and left sides of this combo to the card base (so that it makes a pocket). Set aside for now.
Next, take the Purple circle that you made and, using the Tiny Leaf Backed Swirl and Grape ink, make a background pattern around the outer edges of the circle. Then use the Gold Paint Pen to edge the circle. Glue the resulting piece to the card base, with a portion of the circle fitted into the pocket you made earlier.
Now, using the following stamps and colors on White paper, we'll stamp the wreath:
Mini Gift Box in Split Pea
Mini Gift Box again, this time in Hyacinth
Tiny Bow in Grape
Tiny Gift Box in Canary
Tiny Bow again, this time in Hyacinth
Tiny Leaf Backed Swirl in Bamboo...
and then again in Grape
Tiny Vine Open in Green Tea
Once the ink is dry, use scissors to trim around the stamped area and then edge with Bamboo ink. Glue the cut-out wreath to the Purple disc you made earlier, lower than center, so that more Purple shows at the top of the disc.
MAKE EMBELLISHMENTS
Rectangular Medallion -
Using White card stock, make a small rectangle measuring 1 x 1-1/8 inches. Stamp "Just for you" in Grape ink and then use Canary ink and the Leaf Backed Swirl to stamp around the sentiment. Edge with the Canary ink pad and once the ink is dry, glue on top of the Purple Rectangle you made earlier.
Attach two Adhesive Pearls to the medallion and then attach the rectangular medallion with PopIt! Shapes to the wreath you stamped earlier.
Filigree Embellishment -
In the beginning, I meant to make some White cut-out flowers to use as embellishments. I stamped portions of a White card stock scrap with one of the stamps from the set and started punching out flowers.... when I noticed that the leftover piece of paper looked far more inviting than the flowers themselves did... So...
Using the Leaf Backed Swirl stamp and Grape and Hyacinth inks, make a pattern on a strip of White card stock. Use a floral punch, available at almost any craft store, to punch out some flowers. Set the flowers aside for a future project. Then use the Hyacinth ink to edge the White paper. Create a more definite edge by using a Purple marker to outline the outer edges of this paper.
Use the same Floral Punch and the remainder of the Purple card stock to make a couple of Purple flowers that you will actually use for this project.
Make the Heart Medallion to Insert into the Filigree Cut-out
On a scrap of White paper, stamp "sending you love" in Grape ink. Cut out with a Heart Punch and then edge the heart with Bamboo ink. Set aside until you assemble the pieces of the card.
Attach Embellishments -
Attach the Gold Ribbon to the card-front and then glue down the Filigree embellishment you made earlier. Slip the Heart Medallion you just made into the Filigree embellishment. Last, glue down the Purple flowers you punched out. You can add sparkle with some tiny tipped glitter glue, if you like to top it all off!

That filigree border that almost wasn't is a great addition to the card! Isn't it fun how some things just work out when they were never in the plans? Kudos on another great card idea!

Wow! When I saw the "lacy" piece in the sample I was intrigued to read whether or not it was what I thought! So pretty and fun to read how it came about. That is another of the great things about your tutorials... some insight into the design process. Really appreciate all the extra samples at the end; you have made my creative juices flow this a.m. Thanks!

RST you keep inspiring me with all the ideas for the Box and bow set. I love the versatility of it. The colors and extras of cutting out the flowers and adding smaller sentiment cards are SUPER. Time to encourage someone!

Like everyone else, I liked your idea of using the paper rather than the cutouts. Great inspiration! This card is really cute with everything you included on the card. The samples were also good and inspiring. I also think the bow could be used somewhere for a flower. Thanks again. Great versatile set to win!
