Some friends have just the right unlikely quirk that draws us to them above all other friendships. Some friends are Burgundy and Rust with just the right amount of Purple (did you say "purple?") to make the friendship pop. Okay, so I'm talking about today's project-- or am I?
Let's go see...
Stamps -
Spring Blooms stamp set"If friends were flowers, I'd pick you" block stamp
Papers -
Rust card stock half-sheet, folded
Burgundy quarter sheet
Purple card stock scrap -
White card stock scraps
Sage Green card stock scrap
Inks -
Versacolor Violet, Green Tea, Bamboo, Bark, and Umber
Tools and Embellishments -
Cuttlebug embossing folders - "Swiss Dots," "D'Vine Swirls," "Textile Texture"
Dies -
Spellbinders
Nestabilities Scalloped Ovals (#S4-111)
Spellbinders Classic Ovals Large - (#S4-110)
Gold Paint Pen
Brown Ribbon with White Polka Dots
Mini Brads - Pumpkin Colored
Instructions -
Run the Rust half sheet through two different embossing folders, the "Swiss Dots" folder first, then the "D'Vine Swirls" folder. Then use the Umber ink pad to scuff some of the raised areas you just embossed. Set the card base aside for now.
Locate the Burgundy card stock and run it through the die cut machine, using the scalloped oval die. Then run the Burgundy oval through the machine again, this time in the "D'Vine Swirls" embossing folder. Edge using the Gold Paint Pen. Set it aside for now.
Locate the Purple card stock and run it through the die cut machine using the Oval die. Run the oval through the die cut machine again, this time in the "Textile Texture" embossing folder. Edge with the Gold Paint Pen. Set aside for now.
Locate a White card stock scrap and run it through the die cut machine using a smaller Oval Die than you used in the step above. Then run the White Oval through the machine again, this time in the "D'Vine Swirls" embossing folder. Edge with Umber ink and then edge again with the Gold Paint Pen. Layer the three ovals you just made on the card base and glue down. Then attach the ribbon onto the card base on top of the bottom edge of the ovals. Set the card base aside for now.
Make Floral Cut-out
Stamp the following in a half-oval shape:
Stamp the Itsy Jagged Flower stamp in Violet ink.
Then stamp the Mini Wildflower Trio stamp in Green Tea ink.
Next, stamp the Mini Wavy Leaf Bunch stamp in Bamboo ink.
Last, stamp the Mini Budding Sprig stamp in Bark ink.
Once you have finished stamping, cut out the half-wreath.
Then attach it to the card base with two Pumpkin Brads, on top of the ribbon you placed down earlier.
Make Sentiment Medallion
On the Green card stock, stamp the sentiment stamp in Bark ink. Then use the Wavy Leaf Bunch stamp and Green Tea ink for some texture around the sentiment. Trim around the sentiment with scissors and then edge the paper with the Gold Paint Pen. Glue to a scrap of White card stock and trim the White paper to just a touch larger than the Green Paper. Glue the rectangular medallion to the card base and you're finished!

Using the two textures on one background, brilliant! The unusual colors are making me think of fall already. Another lovely card and great tutorial. Do you have any hints for doing the intricate cut outs? I sometimes leave mine a little less lacey for ease of cutting but yours are quite detailed. Thanks.

While the techniques you show us are invaluable and the colors on this one do look like fall(can't wait!), the layered ovals look like a turkey! I probably would have had to take off the the scalloped oval. Just not my favorite this time around...sorry.

I love this set and the card layout is fantastic. One suggestion I might add is for the flower cut-outs, consider adding some colored pencil lightly colored in between the flowers. It can be green to mimic greenery or even an acccent color to mimic other flower blooms in the background. I've noticed this technique on other colored pencil projects on the web and it really gives some great fullness and dimension to a project. (You could probably also do the same technique with chalk on a cotton swab!) Thanks again for the best tutorial on the web!
