This week's project is a three-in-one; we have an oven mitt, a gift tag, and wrapping paper-- all made using our Poinsettia Flourish stamp set. We'll start with the oven mitt, then we'll wrap the gift and add the gift tag!
Stamps -
Poinsettia Flourish stamp set
Gift Tag block stamp
Materials for Oven Mitt -
Red Patterned cloth - 100% cotton, prewashed
Green and Cream cloth - 100% cotton, prewashed
White muslin strip cut on the bias, prewashed
Tan denim strip
Gold quilting thread
Thick batting
Fabric ink - Burgundy, Gold, Fern
Instructions for the Oven Mitt -
Cut out the material (and batting) for the front and back of the oven mitt. Then stamp the following:
On the red fabric, stamp the Poinsettia, Holly, and Flourish in Burgundy ink.
Then stamp the Poinsettia and Flourish again, this time in Gold ink.
Then align the batting to the red cloth. Quilt, using a free-style pattern. Set aside for now.
Locate the Green and Cream cloth and stamp the following colors:
Stamp the Poinettia in Burgundy fabric ink.
Stamp the Holly Leaves in Green fabric ink and again in Gold fabric ink.
Stamp the Flourish in Burgundy fabric ink.
Align the batting to the this cloth. Quilt, using a free-style pattern. Set aside for now.
Then take the strip of Muslin and stamp the Poinsettia in Gold ink, for trim. Measure out a strip of this trim and sew it to the top of the two quilted pieces, to make a border. Set aside for now. Then take the tan denim strip and hem it on both edges. Then fold a piece (for the hang-loop) and insert it between the two quilted pieces, facing each other, and sew together. Now let's make the other components of this multi-item project...
Make the Gift Tag -
Papers -
Burgundy card stock
White card stock
Tools and Embellishments -
Gold Paint Pen
Adhesive Pearls - Black
Cuttlebug embossing folder - "Textile Texture"
PopIt! Shapes double-sided foam tape
Inks -
Versacolor Burgundy, Green Tea; Archival Black; Encore Metallic Gold
Instructions -
Take the Burgundy card stock piece and run it through the die cut machine, using the embossing folder.
Then edge it with the Gold Paint Pen.
Set aside for now.
Take the White piece of paper and stamp the following:
Stamp the Poinsettia in Burgundy ink.
Stamp the Holly Leaves in Green Tea ink.
Stamp the Flourish in Archival Black ink. Then trim the stamped piece.
Edge all around with the Gold Paint Pen.
For the cut-outs...
On White paper, stamp some Poinsettias in Burgundy and Gold (I stamped one Poinsettia in Metallic Gold ink and then drew over the stamped impression with the Gold Paint Pen for added detail), cut them out, and attach them to the stamped area with the PopIt! Squares. Set aside for now.
Take the Gift Tag stamp and some Black ink and stamp on White paper. Follow with the Poinsettia in Gold ink. Cut the tag to size and then edge it with the Gold Paint Pen. Glue the label to a slightly larger piece of Burgundy card stock. Then garnish with two small Black Adhesive Pearls. PopIt! to the gift tag and that's it!
Make the Wrapping Paper and Cloth Ribbon
Use Versacolor Burgundy, Green Tea, Sage, and Umber inks, along with Archival Black ink and
RST Gold Fabric Ink for the wrapping paper.
I used a Versamark Pen, some Yellow and Sage Chalk to create wavy designs on plain white wrapping paper. I stamped the Poinsettia and Flourish stamps in Sage ink all along the wavy stripes.
In between the stripes I stamped clusters using all the stamps in the set (Poinsettia in Burgundy ink, then again in Gold ink; Holly in Green Tea ink; and the Flourish in Archival Black ink).
Make two simple stencils out of card stock.
Use Umber ink with the long template (to create wavy stripes)
and Green Tea ink on the smaller template, to create festive polka dots.
I stamped Poinsettia clusters in a vertical line and then used the long card stock template to make diagonal stripes.
Make the Cloth Ribbon
Stamp on a strip of muslin to make a ribbon.
Here I used RST Fabric Inks (Burgundy, Gold, Fern, and Black).
Now put all the components together and you're finished!
